My nano is seriously bumming me out
[info]civilized_era: I don't even like, HAVE a plot
[info]civilized_era: ....yeah, I have like, a bunch of excerpts of e-mails between Hankyung and Amber arguing about Jesus or something
[info]civilized_era: and then Hanchul flashbacks
[info]civilized_era: and Donghae getting mad at everything Siwon
[info]civilized_era: and that's about it
[info]black_goose: you know I totally want this, right
[info]black_goose: but
[info]black_goose: I still think it needs to be Hanchul at the end

[info]civilized_era: see see the whole point was
[info]civilized_era: Hankyung taking a stab at a normal life
[info]black_goose: lol
[info]civilized_era: and like, idk, the only girl amongst his acquaintances who is actually unique/special/whatever enough to capture his attention--
[info]civilized_era: because he's been spoiled by Heechul and thinks he deserves better, idk--
[info]civilized_era: is one chummy American quirk of a girl
[info]civilized_era: and it's supposed to be funny and stuff
[info]civilized_era: only the problem is, I can't even convince MYSELF of it
[info]civilized_era: which makes it so damn hard to write :\

[info]black_goose: EVERYTHING YOU HAVE SNIPPETED AT ME HAS SEEMED VAGUELY DEPRESSING
[info]civilized_era: well it's SUPPOSED to be like, Hankyung trying to make sure he doesn't SCREW UP
[info]civilized_era: only the problem is that just because they're in a relationship doesn't mean the rest of his life changes/makes way for that, or whatever
[info]civilized_era: there's still like, commuting to China and being a bigass star and shit

[info]black_goose: it has been vaguely depressing because wtfwtfwtf BROKEN HANCHUL WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT YOU MEANIE
[info]civilized_era: NO NO but they're not broken!
[info]civilized_era: I mean because you can't break what hasn't existed yet >_>
[info]civilized_era: because I wanted to go for ultimate realism here so I was like, oh well, Hanchul are clearly aware of each other and each other's feelings and that possibility of SOMETHING but I kinda feel like they're both people who -- esp Hankyung -- don't like starting something without being able to finish it on their own terms
[info]black_goose: stop being a realist
[info]black_goose: :(

personally?

I THINK REALISM SUCKS (which is coming from a creature obsessed with realism. the type that asks her sister over lunch, well, do you suppose it's plausible that two supposedly straight guys would want to, i mean would.... <--- which is exactly why i refrain from writing sex scenes in general. same type who spends half a year on a fic or the other just to make sure that the dates in DEG tour coincide with the action of the fic. and so on and so forth ad nauseum. yeah)

(also. my nano is going down the drain and apparently life has decided to put EVERYTHING on my shoulders. no love. pah)

so bottom line. black_goose is right. stop being a realist.

i like the idea of email exchange about jesus

(amber is american? i really have no knowledge)

Admit it, you just want me to write Hanchul <3

more in-depth response later, I'm currently tackling the FEMs --but I am THIS close to copping out and putting Hanchul at the end of the road just so I can have better focus...but then the part of me that likes a good challenge can't give it up yet and argh.

plus I adore Amber. and think femmey dancer/American (yes American :D) tomboy is a cute combo.

YES OF COURSE <3 <3 <3

well, there can always be the promise of hanchul at the end. whether he makes it there or not only fic will tell.

i like her too. :)

second. this is what my friend [info]screwthedaisies told me when i was wondering if i should try nano.

"It. Is. So. Much. Fun! (And stressful...but fun!)

The key to success (for me) (other than sitting my ass down to write every day) is making use of the forums at the nanowrimo.org site throughout the month. It's a giant, wonderful support network.

Other things that help me:

- Timed writing (set a timer for five to fifteen minutes, and write without stopping or thinking till the time's up--see how many words you can cram in). Q10, a free, small writing program for PCs, has a timer: http://www.baara.com/q10/ (It also has full-screen mode, so that you don't see your web browser or anything else distracting while you're trying to write.) (And it makes typewriter sounds when you type, which is awesome. (Of course, you can turn those off if you don't think they're as awesome as I do).)

- Change the font color to the same as the page color (if I can't see what I just wrote, I can't hem and haw over it).

- Jot down notes, wherever and whenever I may be. If an idea for later in the story or a snippet of conversation or whatever comes to you, write it down. I end up becoming immersed in the story throughout the month (and beyond), and I find myself working out scenes while I'm making dinner or whatever--I keep paper handy because I'm totally going to get hit with bits of dialog or insights as to what's going on. By the end of the month, I have a pile of paper pieces on my desk. (edited to add that these bits of paper come in really useful when I find myself stuck--I just pull one out and start writing around it.)

- If the scene you're trying to write is dragging or being uncooperative, there are two ways you can handle it. 1. Make a note of what's supposed to happen and then move right on to another scene. 2. Set your timer and write without thinking--just let whatever comes out, come out. Maybe it's boring stuff--who cares? It can be fixed later. But more importantly: You can be surprised by what eventually comes out of regurgitating words like that--and how some little detail that you wouldn't even have otherwise turns out to be crucial in the story.

And final notes on Nano:

The blank page is a bitch. Getting starting can be difficult.

Even more difficult is week two. It's a big, steep, endless, killer hill that you have to slog up with boulders in your arms. It's miserable for the majority of people--people give up, people thrash everything they've done to date and try starting over with something new...the smart ones stick with what they're doing, as much as they hate the sight of it--and then, magically (if you keep slogging through it), it's over! You come to the top! The sun is shining! The view is gorgeous! You start to run downhill, laughing, with your arms spread wide.... Just remember that. Week two sucks...for most everyone...and then you break through. It's like a runner's high, the payoff for the pain.

Best of luck if you decide to do it, and I'll see you around the forums! (Though I do lurk more than post.... I probably average 25 posts/NaNoWriMo season.)"

And this is what Neil Gaiman has to say
